Guide to Enrollment

how does enrollment work?

Technical Requirements

The Lyceum Institute operates on Microsoft Teams, which serves as a centralized hub for our courses, seminars, resources, and conversations.

Teams is available as both a mobile app (Google, Apple) and on the desktop. For fully taking advantage of the Lyceum’s resources, it is strongly recommended to use the desktop application. Check here to ensure your computer is compatible.

what does enrollment mean?

Commitment to an intellectual life

Enrollment in the Lyceum Institute is financially inexpensive—but it is not cheap. Our studies are rigorous: suited for those who possess an intense commitment to making intellectual development an integral part of their daily lives. This commitment requires several hours per week.

Though our enrollment is open to all, year-round—and although there are no requirements on any enrollees to participate in any of our offerings—fully participating as a member of the Lyceum is not for the faint of heart.

If you wish to make this commitment, see our enrollment levels here.

Real Personality

Too often, living in the digital age, we slip into living behind our avatars and screen names, obscured by identities either false or flatteringly curated. By contrast, at the Lyceum Institute, we encourage authentic personal identity, where our personalities signify our real selves.

We respect all our members’ privacy, but help them to affect and maintain real re-integration of identities that the modern world often fragments.

Beyond the University

Beyond the University exists because the modern university, even where it succeeds, has become inadequate to the true tasks of education.  Education is not the transmission of information or preparation for employment, but the formation of good intellectual habits.  These aims no longer fit comfortably within institutions ordered primarily toward efficiency, expansion, and measurable outcomes.  The Lyceum Institute was founded to provide a genuinely different institutional form—one ordered toward education as an integral part of life rather than as a credentialing process.

The Lyceum cultivates enduring intellectual habits of inquiry, order, and memory through rigorous seminars, focused studies of the Trivium, classical languages, guided reading, and sustained inquisitive conversation.  By supporting the Lyceum Institute, you help sustain an independent public institution devoted to education ordered toward truth, continuity, and long-term intellectual formation.  Your gift ensures that this alternative remains available—not only for today’s students, but for generations to come.
