Wisdom and Dignity
This [ability to know things as they truly are], then, is that dignity of our nature which all naturally possess in equal measure, but which all do not equally understand. For the mind, stupefied by bodily sensations and enticed out of itself by sensuous forms, has forgotten what it was, and, because it does not remember that it was anything different, believes that it is nothing except what is seen. But we are restored through instruction, so that we may recognize our nature… “The highest curative in life,” therefore, is the pursuit of wisdom: he who finds it is happy, and he who possesses it, blessed.
Hugh of St. Victor, Didascalicon
The natural dignity of the human being stems from the ability to know. But we live in a time where that dignity suffers profound neglect. I want nothing more than to see a restoration of the person through instruction—through learning, through a cultivation of that most-human of our faculties, the intellect. This desire drives me to seek your help—to ask your gift of the means to help others pursue wisdom.
Our Endowment will provide the foundation for a new paradigm of education—one that does not reject truth for fads or subordinate learning to money-making. If you believe in our vision, donate today. Time for this campaign is running short!
A New Institution: A Campaign for the Future
From April 16 through July 2, we are undertaking a focused campaign to raise $25,000 in support of the Lyceum Institute’s Endowment Fund.
These funds will help secure the long-term future of our mission: supporting faculty, expanding offerings, and ensuring that our model of education remains accessible and stable—not just this year, but for decades to come.
Every donation, whether $10 or $10,000, helps shape the future of what serious intellectual life can look like in our time and for our children and grandchildren. You can be a steward of this future.
Our Request
If you believe that education is more than information…
that truth endures, and tradition matters…
that serious minds deserve serious formation…
Then help us lay new foundations. The time to build is now.
